- Introduction
One of the greatest revelations given to the Church is that Jesus Christ is not only our Savior who died for us, but our Great High Priest who lives for us.
Many believers understand what Jesus accomplished on the Cross, but fewer understand what He is doing right now. At this very moment, Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, ministering on behalf of His people.
The Old Testament priesthood was temporary and imperfect. Priests died and were replaced. Sacrifices had to be repeated continually. Sin was covered but never completely removed.
Jesus changed everything.
He became both Priest and Sacrifice. He offered His own Blood upon the heavenly mercy seat and secured eternal redemption. Today He continually intercedes for believers and grants them access to God’s presence.
The Father’s plan, the Son’s sacrifice, and the Holy Spirit’s ongoing work all converge in the glorious ministry of Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest.

The Father’s Role
The Father appointed Jesus as the eternal High Priest.
Psalm 110:4
“The LORD has sworn and will not relent, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.'”
The priesthood of Christ was established by divine decree, not human ancestry.
The Father ordained Christ to:
- Represent humanity.
- Mediate the covenant.
- Bring sinners into fellowship with God.
- Intercede continually for believers.
The Father’s desire has always been relationship, and Christ’s priesthood makes that relationship possible.
The Son’s Role
Jesus fulfills the office of High Priest perfectly.
Unlike earthly priests:
- He is sinless.
- He never dies.
- His sacrifice is complete.
- His intercession never ceases.
Hebrews 9:12
“Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.”
Jesus stands before the Father as our representative and advocate.
The Holy Spirit’s Role
The Holy Spirit reveals Christ’s priestly ministry and helps believers enjoy its benefits.
Romans 8:26
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.”
The Holy Spirit:
- Draws believers into God’s presence.
- Strengthens prayer.
- Applies Christ’s work to our lives.
- Gives assurance of salvation.
- Reveals the reality of our covenant relationship.
Covenant Significance
The New Covenant is superior because it has a superior Priest.
Under the Old Covenant:
- Repeated sacrifices were required.
- Access was limited.
- The veil remained.
Under the New Covenant:
- Christ’s sacrifice is final.
- Access is permanent.
- The veil is removed.
The Blood of Jesus secures every covenant blessing.
Practical Application
Because Jesus is our High Priest:
- We can pray confidently.
- We can overcome condemnation.
- We can receive grace daily.
- We can approach God boldly.
- We can live in covenant assurance.

Everything in the Old Testament priesthood pointed to Christ.
The garments.

Hebrews 10:1
“For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come.”
The priesthood was a shadow.
Jesus is the reality.

Unlike Aaron’s priesthood, Christ’s priesthood is eternal.
Hebrews 7:17
“You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Melchizedek was both:
- King
- Priest
Jesus fulfills both roles perfectly.
He reigns as King while simultaneously serving as Priest.
His ministry never ends.

Old Testament priests offered animal blood.

Hebrews 9:14

The Blood of Jesus:
- Cleanses sin.

- Grants access to God.
- Speaks mercy over believers.
His Blood is eternally effective.

Christ’s ministry did not end at the resurrection.
Hebrews 7:25

Jesus prays for:

- Our protection.
His intercession guarantees that believers are continually represented before the Father.

The greatest blessing of Christ’s priesthood is access.
Hebrews 4:16
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace.”
Because of Jesus:
- We do not approach God in fear.
- We do not approach God in shame.
- We do not approach God through religion.
We approach God through the Blood of Jesus.
The throne that once represented judgment now becomes a throne of grace.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for appointing Jesus Christ as my eternal Great High Priest. Thank You that through Him I have access to Your presence and confidence in Your love.
Lord Jesus, thank You for offering Yourself as the perfect sacrifice and for shedding Your precious Blood to secure my redemption. Thank You for continually interceding for me and representing me before the Father.
Holy Spirit, reveal more of Christ’s ministry to my heart. Teach me to draw near to God with confidence, faith, and gratitude. Help me rest in the assurance that Jesus is praying for me and that His Blood speaks on my behalf.
May my life continually honor the One who is my Savior, Mediator, Advocate, and Great High Priest.

Final Thought
The Father appointed Him, the Son fulfilled the priesthood perfectly, and the Holy Spirit reveals His ministry to believers. Jesus Christ is our eternal Great High Priest. Through His precious Blood, we have access to God, assurance of salvation, continual grace, and an unshakable covenant relationship with the Father.
